What is the difference between seeing Clinica and seeing a dermatologist for acne?

At Clinica, we focus on the clinical and cosmetic management of acne using light, laser, and resurfacing treatments. For many clients, particularly those with mild to moderate acne, hormonal breakouts, congestion, and post-acne scarring, our treatments deliver meaningful improvement without the need for a prescription. If we assess your skin and feel a dermatologist referral is more appropriate, we will always tell you honestly.

Can hormonal acne be treated at Clinica?

Yes. While we cannot address the hormonal cause directly, we can significantly improve the skin's response to hormonal fluctuations. IPL, LED therapy, and chemical peels are effective at reducing active hormonal breakouts and the inflammation associated with them. For clients where the hormonal component is significant, we often recommend combining our treatments with a GP or dermatologist review to address the underlying hormonal driver alongside the cosmetic management.

Do you treat back acne?

Yes. Back acne is a common concern for both men and women and responds well to the same clinical treatments we use for facial acne, including IPL, chemical peels, and LED therapy. Treatment areas, session times, and plans are adjusted accordingly. If back acne is your primary concern, mention this when booking your consultation so we can plan your session appropriately.

Will acne treatments also help with acne scarring?

Some treatments address both active acne and early scarring simultaneously, particularly fractional laser and skin needling. For more established acne scarring, we build a separate treatment plan that targets the scar tissue directly once the active acne is under control. Early treatment of acne is always the most effective way to minimise long-term scarring, which is why we encourage clients not to wait.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on your acne type, severity, and how your skin responds to treatment. Mild to moderate acne and congestion can often see meaningful improvement in four to six sessions. Hormonal acne requires an ongoing management approach as the trigger is recurring rather than fixed. Your therapist will give you a realistic expectation at your consultation and adjust your plan as your skin responds over time.

Will I need recovery time after treatment?

Most acne treatments at Clinica involve minimal to no downtime. LED therapy and IPL have no recovery time. Chemical peels may involve mild redness or flaking for a day or two depending on the strength used. Fractional laser involves more significant redness for one to two days. For active acne skin we always start conservatively to avoid aggravating breakouts, and downtime is always discussed in full before any treatment is booked.
